Many RV parks now provide food service menus that include items like pizza and burgers, but we recently discovered two RV resorts that take the food concept one step farther. Both experiences were perfect after a day’s drive, when we had neither the time nor the inclination to cook.

While registering at the Destin West RV Resort on Okaloosa Island in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, we received a copy of the “Dine-in Chef” menu from the Ramada Plaza Beach Resort across the street. Along with the usual sandwiches and pizzas, it offered appetizers, salads, house specialties like Rib-Eye Steak and Grouper Fillet, and even desserts.

All we had to do was say how we wanted our steak cooked and when we wanted it, allowing us time to relax and check out the new neighborhood before our meal arrived at the motorhome door. www.DestinWestRVResort.com

Cajun Palms RV Resort DS

At Cajun Palms RV Resort in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, within minutes of hooking up to utilities and putting the slide-out in place, we were picked up on a golf cart and taken across the park to Crawfish Town USA, a popular Cajun-style hot spot. As food and travel writers, eating out is our way of experiencing an area’s cuisine. We call it research.

The Crawfish Town menu offered crawfish and shrimp, with heads on or heads off, boiled, steamed, peeled, and fried. Catfish, soft shell crab, and oyster Poboys. Gumbo thick with seafood, chicken, and sausage. We did our best to sample it all. When we finished our meal, the same golf cart delivered us home to the RV. Had we chosen to, we could have had our food delivered but we would have missed out on a fun Cajun experience. www.CajunPalms.com
